ABOUT MATHURA


 

City of Lord Krishna, Mathura, is located 145 km south to national capital 'New Delhi' and 50 km north to City of Taj Mahal, Agra. District Aligarh is in east and District Bharatpur of Rajasthan is in west.
Mathura city is the administrative centre of Mathura District of Uttar Pradesh and is famous as "Krishnajanmabhoomi" the birthplace of Lord Krishna, an important deity in the Hindu religious pantheon. It is an important pilgrim of the Hindu and one of the seven most sacred cities in India. Vrindavan, the city of temples is 10 km away from Mathura and it is associated with the childhood exploits of Lord Krishna.
The Mathura Museum has the largest collection of redstone sculptures in Asia, depicting many famous Buddha figurines. The rich heritage of Mathura is easily accessible through rail and road from all major cities and states of India.
